This wonderful album finally saw it's long overdue vinyl release back in 2014 - thought to be completely sold out (an it HAS been deleted) I have found a batch more in our Sugarbush warehouse. So here is another chance to grab a copy of this wonderful Scottish Jangle pop classic.
When
initially released on CD it was so well received that ALAN MCGEE signed
the band to his POPTONES label. A classic Scottish record that is full
of melody, great harmonies and 12-string Rickenbackers. Every song on
this album is a winner.
This from the ACTIVE LISTENER WEBSITE: When it was originally released back in 2000, the Cosmic Rough Riders
second album "Panorama" had the cream of the U.K music press (Uncut, Q,
Mojo etc.) falling over themselves to announce its brilliance.
A Scottish band with a convoluted personnel history (let's just say that
singer / songwriter Daniel Wylie basically is the Cosmic Rough Riders),
on their second album they added a whole bunch of sunny California and
West Coast to their melodic Teenage Fanclub jangle, with Wylie writing
the best songs of his career (although his subsequent solo career has
been pretty flash too).
There's an immediate appeal to these songs that makes it easy to see why
they were tagged the "next big thing", but harder to work out why they
didn't stick in the public consciousness of the time. Certainly the open
adoption of the vintage sixties influences on display here was unusual
for the time, and may have been enough to confuse the casual punter into
buying the latest Travis album instead, but tracks like "Revolution (In
The Summertime)" and "You've Got Me" tick all of the right catchy and
melodic boxes to be players on radio, and there's plenty of depth beyond
the surface level hooks; "Afterglow" dabbles in alt. country harmonies
more effectively than anything you'll hear this side of the Jayhawks,
but it's "The Gun Isn't Loaded" which packs the biggest punch with its
spot on Eastern psychedelia easily recapturing and redefining "Within
You Without You" for a contemporary audience.

Pugwash' classic 3rd album. If you dug ALMANAC or ALMOND TEA which we released some years ago, you'll flip over this! To say this is a masterpiece is not over the top, for once. This record is superb and, in my opinion, right at the top of what we have released over 75 releases. It is hard to fault this record and I won't, because I'd be doing everyone a disservice. Rarely have I heard a more perfect album.

The prolific Lane Steinberg and Alexander Khodchenko continue to craft a dense weave of melodic richness on a bed of psychedelic textures. Never predictable, Lane launches into the standout tracks immediately with the rich piano, organ and woven harmonies of the title track and the catchy psychedelic fuzz of “Papa’s Garage.”
However, after those songs, the album slows considerably. “Racing To The Sun” is a fine exercise in restraint, as the melody is sparse but compelling. Other tracks don’t stick out as well, but Lane manages to describe milieus perfectly. On “Bye, Bye Landslide,” we visit a shifty carnival or on “Bernard’s Dilemma” its barbeque time in hell. Musically Alex is able to let loose on “Hidden In Plain Sight” and “Absolutely Hypnotized” with its swirling psychedelic guitar riffs. Overall a very good album that makes you want more. Opening with the lush and psychedelic title track, The Green Pajamas establish an other-worldly ambience right from the start. Distorted guitars and layered vocals underscore lyrics like, “Now be still my goblin heart, It is time that we depart.” Singer-guitarist-keyboards player Jeff Kelly is the Pajamas’ chief songwriter, and he’s a master of poetic imagery. “The Moorland Ghost” refers to a specter whose “dress was blowing wild/A thousand ribbons in the wind,” while the acoustic ballad, “Softly, Elizabeth” echoes the eccentric charm of Barrett’s early work.“Matilda” rocks harder and features medieval style lyrics based on a 1796 horror story called The Monk.
On the lighter side, “The Waitress At The Old White Lion” calls to mind “Kim The Waitress,” which was recorded by The Green Pajamas in 1984 and later covered by Material Issue. “Sweet 16” is an exquisite pop song about a forbidden love, while “Wild Desire,” set to a primitive drum and bass arrangement, views lust as a disease. “The Wave (It’s Becoming Very Clear)” is a short, symphonic reprise of the title track, and provides a fitting coda for an album that deserves to be viewed as a classic." Amazing and tough DETROIT Power-Pop album, with song after song a classic. If this was the 1970s Nick would be a superstar. Shades of TOM PETTY, AEROSMITH, THE SWEET, THE BYRDS yet this is a very original and unique album. Has won award after award in the music press and Nick also featured on MOJO magazines cover mount CD back in November. This is a truly superb album with song after brilliant song with great harmonies and brilliant guitars. Nick has been making great music for 20 years. Now that's pedigree.
It’s probably fair to say that Nick Piunti is a bit of a veteran in the power pop world given he goes way back to 1975. That’s not to say his music is any less relevant today, thankfully the need for hummable melodies and classic pop songs remains. In this great new release he has created an album which has a power pop feel with a modern rock sound. In many ways it follows other great acts from The Replacements through Redd Kross and The Fountains of Wayne, which have created a magic line of modern pop rock.
The album actually opens with the title track and it’s a brilliant opening number which is a great power pop song. It has that feeling of youth and just carefree fun that we all had at the age of 13. “On The Way Out” keeps it going with another really smooth and catchy song with some great Na Na Nas in it! If hearing this song doesn’t make you at least nod your head then you’d better check your pulse.

"Stockholm duo Sven Froberg and Fredrick Persson return with their first release since the standalone single Don't Throw Your Love Away, their third album a limited edition of just 300 vinyl copies (though you can doubtless download from Bandcamp), one of which should be in the collection of any discerning devotee of 60s West Coast psychedelia. Joined by Lars Fredrik Swahn on bass, piano and mellotron with Johan Svedmyr on drums, flautist Erik Lundin and Leo Sander and Sandra Marteleur on cello and violin, respectively, it opens with the short scurrying acoustic guitar-based instrumental Twin Larks before the chiming jangle sets in on the buoyant Laurence of Laurel Canyon. The title alone of The Post-Factual Jam rather speaks to its instrumental freak-out nature, but the strings-soothed Old Jawbone relatively calms things down with its orchestral pop clouds. Then it’s into the eight-minute opus of Bible Black Mare with its pensive bassline, moody haunted desert keyboard atmospherics and the early Neil Young-like vocal whine, the track gradually ebbing away into two minutes of ethereality and whistling....near-wordless, waves-washed track on their Lost At Sea debut, this time with lyrics, as violin and flute enrobed, crystalline pastoral psychfolk, softly dissipating into the ether in its final moments. From the opening notes this killer album by this Pennsylvania group does not let up. Amazing Fuzz guitars envoking the finest ever peresented by BLACK SABBATH & BLUE CHEER. The lead vocals would give Ozzy or Paul DiAnno a run for their money. The rhtyhm section is rock solid. Best of all the songs are incredible, tough, well constructed and super-dynamic & exciting. From the opening track "Ghost & The Fly" through "Zombie Flower Bloom" this album does not let up.
What I also love about it is that it crosses over and appeals to Heavy Psych fans as much as to Hard Rock ones. But don't take my word for it, have a listen or read some of the incredible reviews:

Don’t pass Trappist Afterland up if you truly want a heavy, melodic dose of authentic modern psychedelic music. While they advertise themselves as producers of spirit music for the dispossessed (Not exactly the target audience for great financial reward...), they have a marketable musical product here which is well worth listening to by any fan of late 60s pop music at its purest.

The New Jersey band's raucous blend of Cheap Trick's power chords, the Byrds' ethereal jangle and CSNY's airy harmonies was different, half a decade too early for the New York-based garage revival of the early 00s, and a decade or so too late to be in sync with the West Coast's Paisley Pop movement. No wonder this self-recorded, self-released gem of the power pop art fell on mostly deaf ears, lauded by a few Jersey visionaries, hailed in Germany but completely ignored by commercial radio and MTV.
It's too bad, because if there ever were a record tailor-made for blasting out of AM radio on the way to the beach House of Vibes is it. From the first crunching chords of "Out of Day" through the last feedback tripping psych solo of "Walking in the Crowd", the record balances precisely at the tipping point between rock and pop. It's the same enticing ground that the Who covered in their classic Sells Out, simultaneously hard-edged and accessible, blossoming with melody and rackety with drums. And along the way, the band cranks out half a dozen classic songs, "Salad Days", "Close Descending Love", and "Don't Belong."
This is a truly stunning album and the fact that this band are not massive is tragic as well as kinds cool as it keeps us who are in the know part of a very exclusive club.
